Pattern Cutting (Beginners)

Draft your own Skirt Block.  This will be your first step towards designing your own garments and drafting your patterns. Once you have mastered the basic Pattern Cutting techniques, you will be well on your way to creating those wonderful designs tha:t you have always dreamed of!  This is an intensive one day course on which you will learn the basic principles of Pattern Cutting.. You will be taught how to draft your own personal Skirt Block from which you will make a calico trial garment (toile) to perfect the fit. I will show you how to adapt your basic skirt block so that you can create patterns for your own unique designs that will fit you perfectly. You will learn how to create various skirt shapes and produce patterns for waistbands and facings. Course will run from 10am-5pm

Pattern Cutting (Intermediate)

Draft your own Bodice Block This 2-day workshop is a follow-on from the Pattern Cutting Beginners ‘Draft Your Own Skirt Block’ course The Bodice Block is a more complex shape to draft and fit, and I will explain some of the most common fitting problems and how to remedy them to produce a perfect fit. Once you have mastered the basic Pattern Cutting techniques, you will be well on your way to creating those wonderful designs that you have always dreamed of! During the course, you will be taught how to draft your own personal Bodice Block from which you will make a calico trial garment (toile) to perfect the fit. I will show you how to adapt your basic bodice block so that you can create patterns for your own unique designs that will fit you perfectly. This is a two day course which runs from 10am-4pm on both days.

Bra Making

  1. Learn how to make a beautiful Bra for yourself using delicate lace fabrics, stretch powernet and elastics.

Suitable for those with prior knowledge of sewing machines, and commercial garment patterns.

You have the choice of making a bra with o: r without underwires.

This is an invaluable 2 day course, during which you will use a commercial pattern to construct your bra.

I have made a range of sample bras (toiles) which will be fitted onto the body and adjusted, if necessary, to fit your body shape.

After adjustments to your pattern, you will learn how to cut out your bra and use specialist construction techniques to enable you to work with these difficult fabrics.

 

All Bra Making fabrics and findings are included in the course cost.  I also supply a pair of Underwires for your Bra.

At the end of the course you will go home with a lovely Bra and a pattern that you can use over and over again!

This is a two day course running from 10am to 5pm on both days.

Corset Making

This exciting 2 day course will introduce you to the fascinating world of Corsets. It is suitable for those of you with some experience of garment making. Using an authentic Victorian pattern I will show you how to make a fabulous multi- layered, lined corset which includes spiral steel boning, a front fastening busk and back lacing.

You will concentrate on obtaining a perfect fit by using a range of toiles to take into consideration posture as well as size. Several fittings of the corset will be made – some without boning, and some with bones inserted, to ensure that the corset will fit your body perfectly.

Bring along I metre of your chosen fabric (eg. Silk Dupion, Taffeta, Duchesse Satin) and any favourite lace, ribbons etc. to create your beautiful bespoke corset. All other fabrics, trimmings and specialist components will be provided.

Please also bring matching thread.

Good machine skills are required as stitching lines will be visible.

This is a two day course running from 10am to 6pm on both days.

Remake/Restyle Workshop

We all have pre-loved outfits in need of an update.  Or clothes that just don’t fit any more.

Bring your garments to one of my workshops and learn new skills to transform them into something fabulous!

On these exciting classes I will show you how to breathe new life into your tired old clothes! Each one can be adapted to make a brand new one-off creation.

Alternatively you may wish to trim an existing item of clothing with contrasting fabrics or decorative techniques.

Bring any much-loved garments that need a bit of attention. Perhaps you need to replace the zip, or shorten/ lengthen the hemline. Any minor fitting problems can be remedied.

I can show you all of these techniques on my workshops.

Beautiful Lingerie

On this intensive one-day workshop, you will learn all the skills to make a beautiful Camisole Top and French Knickers Set in lovely soft satin. The set is cut on the bias to give a flattering fit.

A fantastic gift idea, or a luxurious treat to make for yourself.

Valentine’s Lingerie Set

With Valentine’s day just around the corner, why not come along to my one-day workshop and learn how to make this fabulous Lingerie Set.  Comprising of a Camisole Top and Tie-side Pants, the set is made from beautiful soft black pleated lingerie fabric, backed with coral coloured mesh.

All the materials are included in the course cost.

 

On this course you will learn how to:

  • Work with delicate fabrics
  • Attach elasticated lace edging
  • Stitch hairline seams
  • Create a lettuce edging
  • Insert a pants gusset

Knicker Making

A fantastic day of Knicker making! This one- day workshop is suitable for beginners, or those with sewing experience who just want to brush up on their skills. Any style that you wish to make from Thongs to French Knickers!! Make as many pairs as you can! Also including my new ‘Vintage’ 1950s inspired Knickers A variety of fabrics and trims are supplied, from lacy and stretchy to silky. Patterns are available for you to copy and keep. Learn all the techniques required to cut and sew these delicate fabrics, and apply lace and elastic. Any fine fabrics e.g. silk scarves could be used to make your knickers. Bring along what you have at home. No further costs are added – all patterns, fabrics, laces and trims are included in the course cost. Course runs from 10am-4pm.

Fun Pyjamas

In this fun one-day workshop you learn how to make a pair of cosy Pyjama Pants, and customise a T-shirt or Vest to match the Pants. What a fantastic  gift idea! You will need to bring 2.5 metres of fabric for your Pyjama Pants. Cotton or cotton blends are suitable, either printed or plain, which ever you prefer. Please do not bring stretch fabric. This will be enough for the Pants and for trimming the T-Shirt. You will need thread to match your fabric. You will also need to bring a cotton T-shirt or Vest. I will show you different techniques to trim your T-shirt e.g. Applique, Binding, Patch Pockets and Fabric Painting. Course runs from 10am-4pm

Vintage Style Tea Dress

During this two-day workshop, you will learn the skills to make a beautiful fully-lined Vintage Style Tea Dress to fit yourself perfectly.

I have designed this lovely dress and drafted the pattern which has 2 skirt variations, 2 bodice variations and 2 different necklines. It also includes an optional neck bow. You can mix and match the design features to make your own perfect Vintage Style Tea Dress.     

You will need to bring fabric for your dress.  Cotton or cotton blends are suitable, either printed or plain, which ever you prefer. Please do not bring stretch fabric.

You will also need to bring lining fabric for your dress.

 

Dress Making

During this two-day workshop, you will learn the skills to make a basic shift dress to fit yourself perfectly.

I will provide a commercial dress pattern which has darts, a back zip and an optional collar or neck bow. The pattern is based on an original vintage 1960s shift dress pattern. The style is flattering for all body shapes and can be adjusted to your chosen length.

Course runs 10am-4pm on both days.
